Cricket Returns to Olympics in 2028: Schedule Announced for T20 Format

Los Angeles: Cricket is officially making a comeback to the Olympic Games after over a century. The sport will feature in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with matches to be held at the Fairgrounds Stadium in Pomona, about 50 km from downtown LA. The men’s and women’s events will begin on July 12, with medal matches scheduled on July 20 and 29.

A total of 6 men’s and 6 women’s teams will participate, with 90 players allocated per category. All matches will follow the T20 format. Notably, this is only the second time cricket is being played at the Olympics, the first being in Paris in 1900.

According to the schedule released by the organizers, there will be rest days on July 14 and 21, while most days will feature double-headers.

The move comes after the successful hosting of the 2024 T20 World Cup in the U.S. and West Indies. Alongside cricket, baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash will also debut in the 2028 Games.
